Printmaking | Introduction to Wood Engraving
Friday 11 January
9.30am - 3.30pm
Wood engraving is an age-old relief print-making method used for creating small and highly-detailed images using end grain wood. It was traditionally used to illustrate books and newspapers throughout the 1800 and early 1900s. In this 1 day workshop students will learn:
the history and look at examples of wood engraving
about Image design
how to prepare the blocks and transfer drawings
methods of carving the block using traditional engraving tools.
how to print your wood block (without a press)
Participation includes an honored printmaking tradition – the print exchange! At the end of the workshop, students exchange prints – a perfect way to start your own art collection.
